The Village Postmaster
The Ephraim was born circa 1845 to Simon and Harriet Mills of New Street in Stradbroke. He first appears on the 1851 census as the 6yr old son of Simon Mills, 52 a shoemaker. By the 1861 census return Simon has become a Widower. Ephraim married Alice Wilding in 1869 which was the same year that his father died. By the 1871 census Ephraim and Alice have 2 children and are still living in New Street. Ephraim is now a Shoemaker. By 1881 they have 5 more children and Ephraim is still shown to be a shoemaker. 1891 sees the first time his occupation is 'letter carrier and shoemaker' and 2 more children have joined the family. 1901 shows 'Postman' and shoemaker. Their residence throughout has been New Street. Ephraim died in 1910 at the age of 65. Alice died in 1937 aged 88. This information was found on www. ancestry,co.uk and www.freebmd.org.uk
